baby-car-seatBaby car seats are a very basic necessity for anyone who has children and want to travel by car along with the infant. In most states in the US there is mandatory law that anyone travelling with infants or babies must have a baby seat installed in order to ensure safety of the child. There are many seats on the market today and choosing the right one with the right features that serves the purpose for the baby is what is most important aspect of choosing the best car seat for the baby.

Choosing a rear facing baby seat for an infant is the best wise decision a parent should take, because it is safe to keep the baby in the rear facing position until they reach a particular weight and age. This keeps the baby's body and neck safe from flying forward. Although once your baby is 1 year of age AND 20 lbs, you can switch them to forward facing. It is just good to keep them rear facing as long as possible.

There are also convertible baby seats on the market, and by convertible we mean that the seat can be used for front and rear facing and this saves a lot of money rather than buying two separate seats. Another important tip is to try and take your baby for car seat shopping along with you, this way you can actually try the seat out and check if the straps fit perfectly and check if your baby feels comfortable in the seat you are going to choose.

The price range for baby car seats depends upon the brand and the quality. The prices can vary even if you are looking for car seats for a hot tropical climate or extreme cold weather conditions. Hence it is best to choose the car seat depending upon the type of climate the baby is going to be spending most of his time in. Prices for a convertible baby car seat range from $25 and can go up to $350 depending upon style, texture and quality. Anyone who has a baby it is best advised to go for a nice costly convertible seat for the baby because this is once in a lifetime investment and who knows when the next baby in the family is going to be born so it can be used for that baby too.

Do you guys mean I will have to buy a new one after I move back to the U.S. no matter what kind I have? As I know EU standards are all the same in most EU countries and there are only a few exceptions (for example the UK is granted the right to have its own standards in many cases while continental Europe is pretty much the same).

Can I still take it back to the States and use it at home and on the plane? Since I do not think there will be anything else to carry the baby in on the plane. I have seen that some little babies were in car seats on the plane, is that allowed?
Spike: my son will be about a year old when we return to the States. I bought the car seat in Hungary, it is supposed to be the same in almost every EU country. I had the feeling that the US standard would be different, I'm very sure you guys are right about that. I just want to make sure I could use it (not in the car) until I get a new one in the U.S.
