Now that you're back home from the hospital or birthing center with your newborn, instead of losing sleep because your baby is kicking-you're losing sleep because your baby is crying. What a change! Instead of worrying about whether your baby will be born healthy, now you worry if you'll take good care of her (him) and how to prevent accidents and illness.
Here are a few things you should know to help make life a little easier:
It takes 9 months for a baby to be full-term, but only a matter of hours to become new parents. It's quite amazing when you think about it! Learning to feel and act like a mother or father will be foreign to you and it will take a little time. All new parents go through it and you are not alone!
Falling in love with your baby (called bonding) may come easily for some, but for others they may need a little more time to get to know each other. I felt in awe of this little human being and couldn't believe she was mine, but in a few days I was so in love with her that I would want to protect her just like a mommy bear with her cubs!
It may take a month or two to recognize what the different cries from your baby means. What the difference between hunger, tiredness, messy diaper and "I want to be held" cries. It may take a little time to feel real comfortable with bathing your baby, diapering and burping her (him). When you first learn a new skill in anything, you always feel a little awkword and clumsy. With a newborn baby, you can feel the same way. Even breastfeeding doesn't always come "naturally", sometimes it takes time and practice before both mother and baby feel comfortable. When I was still in the hospital (I had a C-section), the lactating nurse would help me learn how to breastfeed. I was determined to do this, but it sure was hard to learn the right position. I was sore and tired. When they brought my little girl in for the next feeding, I almost dreaded it because I knew it was not going to be comfortable. But soon it was just second nature and I never had any problems again.I hope these thoughts and suggestions will help ease any apprehensions you may have about being a new parent. Do you remember how nervous you were when you were first learning how to drive or parallel park? Driving comes naturally now, and with a little practice, taking care of your baby will too.
Be patient through the difficulties you may encounter with parenthood; remember that we all go through it and that you are not alone in what you are feeling!

What are some of your favorite nursery themes? Colors?? Decorations....anything will help. I already bought 2 bedding sets (one for boy and one for girl). The girl's is off white with light pink tulips w/ deep purple stems...very modern looking, and the boy's is white w/ red, blue, and turquoise rockets...another modern looking print. Any suggestions?? Thanks!
I really like modern themes and clean colors/lines...I want something that doesn't look too "baby", so it will grow with him/her.
