newborn-clothingFor many years cotton has been the choice for manufacturers as the material to use in their products mainly clothes. It was thought to be a clean,light and soft fabric. It was seen as the perfect material for adult clothes, newborn clothing, linens and bedding.

Cotton is still used today but there is a trend to now use organic cotton which has become quite popular for newborn clothing.

Cotton for many years was grown using toxic pesticides and synthetic fertilizers. All cotton was grown this way since we were not aware of the damage we were doing to the environment.

As we became more aware of the effects that growing cotton was having on our environment and on us, a trend to go organic increased when it came to manufacturing linens, newborn clothing and bedding.

So why is going organic a trend that is on the rise?

Well for one thing it is grown without all the pesticides and chemical fertilizers. Only 100% natural ingredients such as manure are used in its production.

Environmentally, the growing of organic cotton is better in more ways than one. Insects harmful to cotton are becoming resistant to the pesticides thus causing the farmer to increase the use of these harmful chemical pesticides. It takes approximately one pound of chemicals to grow cotton while organic cotton is grown without the use of harmful chemicals.

Organic cotton is grown using methods and materials that have a very low impact on the environment. The methods used actually help build healthy soils and a healthy environment.

Once harvested it is not treated with the chemicals and the dyes that traditional cotton is. This makes for a material that is much easier on sensitive skin and less likely to trigger any allergies, just perfect for newborn clothing.

Producers must actually be certified. Their fields must test clean of pesticides and chemicals etc for three years before they are certified.

Going organic not only reduces damage to the environment but also it creates a safer environment for the worker who works in the field with the cotton.

So the next time you are out shopping and you are trying to find unique baby clothes for your baby or for a shower gift check that label. Organic cotton is very soft it is much more durable and breathable which makes it a very good material for newborn clothing.

The child gets the chance to explore a new and exciting environment while as a parent you get peace of mind that nothing untoward will happen to your little treasure.

Should you use a safety harness and reins on your toddler?
The past few decades have seen much debate about the use of child harnesses and reins with many childcare experts and parents in opposition to their use. The feeling is that physical restraint rather than verbal instructions to stay safe and close sends the wrong message to a child. However, child harnesses date back many centuries and they’re a proven method for safe restraint while outside.

Those who support harnesses and reins will testify that these harmless and comfortable leashes give toddlers more freedom than if being transported around in a stroller. The child gets more exercise and develops a better awareness of being in a busy environment while the parent avoids those heart-stopping moments such as when a tot wriggles free from your grasp and heads toward a busy road.

Using a child harness and reins
There’s a time and place for using reins on your child and this will usually be somewhere outdoors that has lots of people about or heavy traffic passing by. A harness is ideal in a busy shopping centre where a stroller will take up too much room as you browse the shops.

Anywhere that you’re occupied with looking around at something other than your infant, a child harness should be used. It can be easy to take your eyes of your infant for a few seconds but that’s all it takes for them to run off. While they may be innocently playing a game of hide and seek with you, you’re fretting about their safety.

Some children may not enjoy having a harness placed on them so if you are going to use reins introduce them to your child as early as possible in their development so they’ll be used to them.
