What do you tip a 24-hour live-in home health aid? Or gift?
logicalconclusion asked:
My grandmother's live-in home health aid recently started working for her, about 5 weeks or so. I'm not sure of the tipping/gifting protocol during the holidays for a home health care worker.
I got her a nice bath & body product gift set but I'm not sure what my parents should give her, a gift, money (how much?), etc? Keep in mind, she's been there for a month.
I know this is not a job that people tip for on a usual basis, but they do grueling work for minimum wage so I wanted to show my appreciation.
Ideas and suggestions will be appreciated!

A nice day at the spa would be a great gift.

i’m a nanny for two kids and get at least $100 at christmas time – it is a bonus, not a tip, think of it that way. altho she’s been there only a month, if she does a good job and your family intends to keep her on, this is a great incentive for her, believe me!
if cash is not an option, a nice 1 hr full body massage at a nice spa would also be appropriate, esp considering her line of work, which requires all her focus to be on someone else’s needs.
you are sweet.

as she is live in you shpould treat her the same as a new member of thge family. A gift is mor appropriate thn money. try to make it something that shows that you are interested in her as a person, not just an employee. A magazine subscription to her favourite magazine would be nice. Prehaps some movie passes or theatre tickets? A few of her favourite cd’s or dvds would also work.
