My daughter turns 13 months in four days and she is still not walking. She will take about 3 steps in between people and she seems afraid to let go. When did your child start to walk? Anyone have any late walkers?

My step daughter walked at 9mon but never crawled. My sister didn’t walk until 15mon because she was such a good crawler that she didn’t need to walk to get places. There is a wide range in normal walking ages. Don’t worry. She’ll be running around the house and running you ragged in no time.

Children walk at different ages. Culture plays a big part in it, as well. AN Asian baby (as proved by one of my dayhome kids) might walk as early as 7 months, while Caucasian babies tend to walk at one year or slightly thereafter.
I have two daughters. One is gifted and the other is slightly under the bar–yet both walked at about 15 months. If your daughter is taking steps, it’s just a matter of time when she is fully walking on her own. Be patient, nothing is wrong! Just keep encouraging her..the more confidence she gets in herself, the quicker she’ll make the decision to make a leap to independence.
